PETER THOMAS HICKS

17TH JANUARY 1940 – 12TH MAY 2007

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of a very treasured member of Bishop Gundulfs Morris. Pete played guitar and Banjo for the side and had been a member of several years. Pete died in Spain following a short illness while on holiday with his wife Val. Val was well supported by her friends with whom they had stayed with in Spain.

A Celebration of Life Service was held at St Helens Church Cliffe on 29th May 2007 and afterwards events continued at Pete's local pub, the White Horse, Upper Stoke, where much Morris dancing, music and singing took place alongside much beer swigging in the best traditions of the Morris. A number of local Morris sides were able to attend the service and evening activities and Val really appreciated this.

Val requested everyone wear either their Morris kit or bright colours, on the day, to reflect Pete's colourful personality. Those of you who met Pete will find it hard not to forget his colourful character and his love of amazing colourful Hawaiian shirts!

He has left us with so many happy memories of not only a talented musician who could liven up any venue with his infectious laughter and his spontaneous guitar strumming but also a man who really lived life to the full. We will miss him tremendously but the memories will last with us forever.

Our thoughts are with his wife Val, his daughters, grandchildren and all of the rest of his family , his very dear friend Peter (Blossom), Currie and all of the Wadard Morris side with whom he shared his love of Morris dancing for many years.
